Of course you can enjoy healthy foods
If you and your family enjoy eating out in restaurants, you might be fooled into thinking that this lifestyle is
not good for a healthy diet. In many cases, you would be right.
However, you really can still enjoy healthy eating at a restaurant and maintain your healthy diet.
How? Well it's all about you making healthy foods choices, which starts with learning about the nutrition you need
to be happy, healthy, mentally stable, and suitably active.
When you pick up the menu, start by missing out the drinks section. Although you may well be tempted to
enjoy a beer or mixed beverage with your meal, these usually have many useless calories, which is not good for your
body. But there is some good news!
The exception to this rule is wine, particularly red wine, which can be great if you have a single small glass Not one of those huge glasses
that take half a bottle! Red wine can actually help prevent heart disease for some patients. So are you
beginning to see how you can enjoy healthy eating at a restaurant?
Also skip over the appetizer menu, unless you pick a side salad without mayo, olive oil is OK. The appetizers at
restaurants are usually high-fat foods that are not meant to fill you up and can even make you crave more high
fat and sugary foods samples of these are mozzarella sticks, potato skins, and chicken wings, don't even think
about spare ribs! Instead, just focus on your main course or, if you must indulge a little and why not after all we
want to enjoy life don't we?.. share a single serving of the indulgence with your table mates.
When choosing your main dish, it is important that you look at the ingredients of the dish and choose healthy foods. Anything with cream sauces or
high-fat meats should be avoided, and pass up the potatoes (unless jackets) or onion
rings.
Instead order side dishes like plain cooked vegetables or ask for only the main course when possible. Remember
too that the portion size is everything. Order from the lunch menu whenever you can, and ask for a doggie bag
right away. Split your meal in half from the start so that you are not tempted
to eat the entire thing if it is a large portion as most dishes are today. At the end of the meal, stick over the
desert menu, just as you did with the appetizers. Again, you can share a single desert if too fancy but a sorbet
although high in sugars is not going to harm you and they can be really delirious! Many fancy desserts in
restaurants have more calories than your entire meal, so remember this before you call over down the waitress
to order! Of course, on special occasions, its alright to cheat a little, but overall healthy eating requires lots of resisting
